Brigitte Comby

artist, portrait painter and illustrator

My name is Brigitte Comby. I am an artist, portrait painter and illustrator. Since I have been able to hold a pencil, I have never stopped doodling and drawing, with either hand.

Having spent many years roaming around, I now work from a small hamlet in southwestern France, where I have become settled. What started as a passion has now become my work, and while I use my left hand for the visual arts, I adore using my right hand for writing stories for young readers.

Techniques and references

Portraits

I produce portraits on commission for all ages, based on photos received by email.
They can be carried out with the following techniques:
sanguine (red chalk), aux trois crayons (three chalk colours, red, black and white), coloured pencil, pastel, acrylic or oil.
Also, I undertake copies of ancestors’ portraits, as well as portraits of pets or other animals.

Illustrations

As for illustrations, they can be in colour, or line drawings.
In the case of line drawings, you (or your children) can colour them in, as you see fit.
Colour illustrations are done with watercolour, coloured pencil ou gouache, and in some cases the results will be enhanced with the help of technology.
On the whole, my illustrations revolve around children and childhood themes, and can be customised for birthdays, alphabets, parties, wedding announcements, and so on.
Again, scenarios involving your children can be invented. Everything is customised to order.
I also produce illustrations for books.

Religious illustrations

Religious illustrations can be done in black and white, or in colour, for christenings, first communions, weddings, saint’s days, and liturgical festive times such as Advent and Easter.
I also produce illustrations of saints of times past and present, St. Blandine, St. Michael, Mother Teresa, Maximilian Kolbe, and biblical scenes such as the Nativity or Christ in Majesty.
